President’s Note
I would like to thank all of you for allowing me to say a few things about the Aeta Tribe Foundation. I'd also like to recognize and thank all our contributors and volunteers for your compassionate actions and dedication. The Foundation and its goals are very personal because the Aeta people saved my grandfather and mother in World War II by hiding in their villages from Japanese soldiers. I didn't hesitate to join the Aeta Tribe Foundation because this is my way of giving back.
Our mission and vision are to tackle the water crisis, improve sanitation, and rebuild the forest which was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991. In March of 2023, I had the privilege to travel to the Philippines and visited fifteen Aeta villages in Capas,Tarlac provinces. We got up early in the morning every day, rode 4x4 vehicles long distances over rough terrain, climbed rocky roads, and crossed several rivers and streams to reach the villages. There, I was able to see the communities for myself and speak with beautiful, spirited families about their struggles and how difficult their lives are without water and toilets. Each time we visited an Aeta village, we distributed 5-gallon blue plastic containers and food relief for each household.
I saw firsthand what the Foundation does - building water catchment systems, artesian wells, handwashing stations, and toilet facilities, as well as distributing water containers and water buffaloes. I was there to cut ribbons for the new water- catchment systems and bathrooms. I helped to distribute over 1,500 blue plastic water containers and bring two water buffaloes to each Aeta community. I've now visited several more villages, and many requested help to build their village's water-catchment systems and toilets because they had none at all.
I've also met dedicated teachers living in remote places who teach Aeta children, such as at Alunan, Pisapungan, and Pilien elementary schools. We started our Lifesaving Feeding Program in January 2023, and we've already made an impact in just five months! The schools no longer have issues recruiting, enrolling, and retaining students. In fact, the students bring their younger siblings to school even when they're not enrolled yet!
As a volunteer-based small non-profit organization, the Aeta Tribe Foundation is doing life-changing work for the Aeta communities. We’re making rapid strides in providing clean water for the Aeta people in remote areas and restoring the natural forest systems, which will save more lives for future generations.
My friends, as the new President of the Aeta Tribe Foundation, I want to put into action what I learned from my mother – Elizabeth Ramsey, the Queen of Rock & Roll in the Philippines during the 50s. She once said to me that the most important thing in life is "the value of community service, the importance of relationships, and the belief that we can do more together than we do alone."
I'm honored and excited at the opportunity to serve as President of the Aeta Tribe Foundation. I'm also inspired by what the Foundation can become in the future, both here in the U.S. and in the Philippines. Today, we will continue our efforts to raise more funds to change lives and achieve long-term stability for people in need.
I encourage you to check out our website periodically at https:// www.aetatribes.org and/or Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/aetatribes for upcoming fundraising events.
Our goal is to receive $50,000 in donated funds annually to protect the health of the forest and to bring hope to the Aeta people to rise from poverty.
Please join us and help increase our impact for 2023 and for the following years to come. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Sansu Ramsey
